    (2) 99 yamaha xl1200 Projects

First let me start by saying hi. I am new to the forum I have read a lot of great stuff here but am just joining. I have recently bought 2 99 xl1200 both needing engine work, the first is a low hour ski with melted piston skirts. It was a simple repair replaced the cylinder and found oil line came off #1 cylinder. I am going to do a oil block off and mix before summer. The other one has around 200 hrs on it it has a melted piston around the exhaust port of #1 it is currently apart, I am hesitant to assemble because I have yet to find the cause of meltdown. I have checked oil lines, took the carbs off to inspect filters. The only thing I can find is the Catalytic convertor has broken loose it exhaust. I am going to delete this on both as well. I am also doing the balanced carb mod. But the check valves in the #1 carb still look good as well. Thanks for any and all help. Kevin

Thanks, How hard is to change the front crank seal? Would you recommend upping the main jet size to a stock motor?

u need a puller to pull the stator gear off, and not quite sure how to remove the rear one. they are not faulty all the time but its been known to happen. all it takes is a small air leak.

Front or rear seals require the engine to be removed and the cases split. Be sure to do a leak test before disassembly to make sure what is actually leaking.
