    Show me your GPS ideas

After searching for the best ideas on GPS solutions for skis, I decided to share mine. I didn't find a thread that was all encompassing to help newbies see many ideas in one place. I hope that others will share ideas here.

I use a Garmin Edge 200 gps and also a Garmin edge 800. Both function we'll on my ski and are water resistant. These are units primarily used in bicycling. The edge 200 is much less expensive so I've done my testing with that first. The size makes them a good option for skis IMO. Also you can upload your ride to a website called garmin connect. There you can find a map of your ride with a speed and distance profile among other things.

Here's a link to garmin connect. You can see one of my rides. Good part is that you have your top speed recorded and there is no need to remember or look at the gps while getting in a good run.

    Here are a few pics.

Here is the Garmin edge 800. Touch screen, fully configurable pages with different data. Both the 200 and 800 use the same mount which is a quarter turn quick disconnect. They are designed to sit on the handlebars of road bikes and mountain bikes so they are pretty secure.

Although not performance related, you may find some GPS and mounting configs. in the PWC Fishing Section here on the forum. Of course, you're likely to see larger mounted and handheld units...

I use an android app when I need to..
Ulysse Speedometer. I ran numerous runs with my Garmin legend C and this app and they were always .5 to 1mph within eath other. The only thing this app doesn't do is measure in tenths so when my garmin said 78.8 the App woulf=d either read 78 or 79..
