    Kawasaki zxi 1100 1996

Hi all recently purchased a Kawasaki zxi1100 in really good condition for a 1996 ski guy i purchased it off was very staright and honest with me told me it needed a new impeller and as the old one was past its best so he threw in a solas concord 13/19 with the sale...so tried to fit that when i got home found out it wouldnt fit in the pump housing for some odd reason anyway sourced another pump housing and hey preston dropped straight in no problems. so took it out for its test run with the new impeller fitted,( i noticed the throttle cable seemed a little slack so i adjusted it up a touch before i went out) anyway out on the water it seemed to run ok pulled like a train then it wouldn't rev past 6000rpm ,also it was ticking over at 3000rpm in the water so i adjust the throttle cable back off and it idled at 1800rpm, but still wouldnt rev past 6000rpm, anyway once home i noticed while i was flushing it out water spraying out of the exhaust manifold
got the manifold off and theres a crack at the front fixing under where the exhaust bolts to so question is would the crack in the manifold cause the bad running ?
it also seems to bounce quite abit even on flat water is this a zxi trait so to speak it has an R&D Aquavein intake grate and a R&D ride plate

    any help much appreciated

    sorry if ive waffled on

    1) Welcome to the group.

    2) Get a compression gauge from the local auto parts store and do a compression test. 6000 is too low and it sounds like you are only running on 2 cylinders, maybe 2 1/2. Compression should be in the 90-120psi range and all three should be within 10% of each other.

    3) Yes, the ZXi tends to porpoise (bounce) a lot. Aftermarket sponson help. Manually adjusting the trim to the up position helps too.

So would the water leak cause the bad running ie water pressure in the cooling system not been right thus engine automatically limiting the revs?

If the motor is in need of a top end rebuild, it may not be making enough horse power to run the steeper impeller. A compression check will let you know where to go next.

Compression test 120psi across all 3 cylinders

Start with the basics. Replace the spark plugs.

Yes, a crack could cause it to run badly. If fumes are filling the hull, it won't run as well. If water is spraying in such a manner that it's getting into the air intake it won't run well (it could even be filling the bottom of the hull and the drive shaft is spraying it up into the air intake).
