Post Ride the river like Huck Finn! Vicksburg to Baton Rouge.

Anyone interested in riding the largest river in North America...or at least the lowest stretch before shipping traffic becomes an issue? An easy leg would be Vicksburg to Natchez...about 75 miles (red). Another 130 miles to Baton Rouge (magenta). Down past BR, barge traffic gets heavy and I believe riding the barge wakes would prove no fun. They leave a nasty line of waves for a literal mile...nothing like a normal boat wake that you hop and move on.

No date, no plan, just seeing if anyone is interested first.

And this is the time of year to go... Still need to figure a portage out for fuel. But I'm in if the time is right and the river is low.

Weekends I could ride: Oct. 26 / 27. Nov. 2 / 3. Pretty much does it for me in 2013.

Yeah, after that it will be too cool on the water for my liking as well. Yesterday was nice on the lake here but a cold front is coming in mid week.

What's the best way to do trucks/trailers for a one way run? Group A drop skis in water at the launch point, take truck and trailers to meet group B at take out point, then ride to launch point? After the ride, group B rides with group A to get their truck/trailers?

That might be a good option. All I could think of was to bring along a friend to drive the wheeled vehicle.

Yeah, did that before because I got lucky and found someone going almost my exact route...but I hate to ask someone to drive a truck while I get to ride a jet ski. But if you've got someone willing, go for it!

Other thing is gas. One option would be stashing gas cans (hidden) on the side of the river...somewhere easily road accessible. Could pick the empties up later or bungie them on the back. That's for the full run. The individual legs would be doable with one extra can on the back.

Wade, your plan for logistics would work. Also, I'd be concerned about hiding gas, but I do have a friend or three in JAX that might be willing to haul gas and meet us...
