1983 kawasaki js550 burning out starters?
Bought this jet ski in June and it had a new engine in it. When I bought it it needed a starter so I bought a Chinese crap one on eBay and it started my my jet ski 5 or 6 times before it burned out. I decided that I would just get the OEM one that was in it professionally rebuilt... that starter lasted about 2 days before it also burned out. It there a reason that the ski would be burning these out? Or am I just unlucky???

You might consider installing a primer to get it to start instantly. Saves a lot of wear & tear on the starter.

Check your connections. A starter draws a lot of current, and if there is a crappy ground or something it will draw too much. Those cables are thick for a good reason.

OK, maybe I thought about it wrong but the bad connection is still a suspect. The starter wont get enough voltage across it to adequately turn the motor over.
