2012 Yamaha VXR Starting Issues - Security System Maybe?

Last week after about 1-2 minutes of holding WOT the warning light/buzzer went off when I came down off of plane. The engine sign flashed so I shut the ski off and when I went to start it I got nothing. Hit lock/unlock on remote and it started up and ran fine there after for another 3+ hours.

When I got home and went to flush it I noticed it was in L-mode and for the life of me I could not get it out. I have tried every possible way other than disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Now I can't even get the engine to start at all. It either gives me nothing - dead, or a grinding sound coming from the electrical box.... WTF

that Yamaha dongle bit is confusing..if I recall hold the unlock button down for a few seconds. if you get the owner's manual from the Yamaha web it details exactly how the security system operates.

get a meter on the battery and see what the drop is when you hit the start button

Alright I think I got it. I went to disconnect/reconnect battery and discovered the screw holding the ground in was loose. Tightened that up and started it a few times with no grinding noise. Played with the remote a little and now it's out of L-mode.

Hope that was it, thanks for the help guys! I didn't even think to check for a loose connection somewhere. Now if only this wind would die down so the bay isn't a washing machine on spin cycle!

before you get back out into the bay, check to make sure the charging system was not damaged by the loose cable, which can allow a high voltage condition on the electrical system.

Should a display switch to get it to read the current battery voltage.

I suggest always using a wrench/socket to tighten battery terminals, the screwdriver is only for quick removal and basic installation to the point where the wrench is needed.
