    wanting to know the proper way to gut my water box on a 1998 xl1200

    hey just wanting to know the proper way to gut my water box on my 1998 xl1200 im pretty sure i have a good idea how to just want to know for sure b4 i tear into it

    the 1200 waterbox is fine leave it alone .. get the Riva free flow kit...

    this will give you better sound and some power but nothing huge. also free up your intake. get rid of the box for intake and put a nice flame arrestor in there. that way u can actually suck up the air u get rid of.. that will give you some power.

    I would not gut the box... 2 strokes need back pressure for exhaust scavenging and it can actually hurt performance. You can go with a freeflow without too much top end loss, and pick up some bottom end performance

    The only problem with running an open air box or flame arrestors is that it is recommended to re-jet the carbs
