Question Question about roller vs bunk

Why are bunks so much more common than rollers in the US?

Bunks are much less maintenance, not to mention this.

Wow that was some good reading. Will never have interest in a roller system again.

Bunks just make sense for skis. Not really much to mess up..

I use roller bunks...on a parking contraption I built for winching my ski out of the water. They work great for that. Wouldn't trust them on a trailer.

i have an icatch trailer a 2011 model and read the same thread that was posted above. the ski is a 2012 and has zero issues. i did not choose to have an icatch it came with the ski. i get the damage on that ski was bad but you cant lump all roller bunk trailers into the same category.

i was very worried after reading that thread and when i picked up the ski i checked every spot where a roller touches it. all places were solid. since i have had it home i find myself checking them and still no issues.

it launches great but i get the concern with rollers i just think due to one thread they get a bad name.

My neibor has rollers on his boat trailer. Now granted his 20'boat weighs a little more than a ski however has more rollers on the trailer. He has had several problems. On longer trips he has experienced scuffing. We are salt water exclusive around here and after a few everything gets corroded up and needs to be replaced. In 10 years he has replaced all that crap at least 3 times. At least two times in that time period a roller has come off for what/ever the reason, and caused hull damage. He is older and prefers rollers as it is easy on/off at the ramp.

My biggest concern personally is is strap/winch/tiedown failure leading to a ski on the asphalt. I do a agree tho one bad apple shouldn't taint the whole tree.
