Why RR driveshaft thru hull bearings fail
The placement of the grease zerk is behind the seal and the grease has to enter the bearing from the side. If a passage is placed to put grease from the outside of the race (center) into the bearing it will take 4-5 more pumps to fill it. I have found a source for replacement bearings and seals at a REASONABLE price.
What has happened to several of us in the past was; the bearings wear prematurely and bind locking onto the shaft twisting the whole assembly loose until it rips the boot or rips loose from the hose and water preasure pushes it (RR thru-hull) towards the engine flooding the engine compartment.
With all that said I've worked up a new Thru-hull with bigger needles and double seals.
