    Polaris 760sl MFD short

    Hi guys

    Im new to your forum,

just bought a polaris 750sl and the round mfd has a short

every time i change the fuse it blows. i have pulled the wiring loom out and check for a short there but seems ok

fuse only blow when the mfd is plugged in so i guess its a fried unit

After buying the ski the first fuse i pulled out was a 4 amp which i guess has caused the unit to fry

My question is can they be repaired or is it going to cost me a fortune to replace it

    Thank for any advice

    Welcome

The Round MFD are slightly harder to get open than the oval versions, and somewhat more difficult to work on.

There is a thread somewhere showing a round MFD cut open. Have a look through the MFD section from my signature links.

If the electronics are fried these MFD tend to be difficult to actually repair as the electronic components are tiny and tracing the circuits and replacing the SMD parts is time consuming.

Round MFD do turn up for sale now and then. Keep an eye on ebay and our own Polaris classifieds sections.

Electrically the round and oval MFD are identical. You can plug the oval MFD in and it should work immediately.

The speedometer calibration may be somewhat inaccurate but it will still be usable.

You can probably buy a used MFD wire harness from eBay or elsewhere, that will be long enough to reach the handlebar.

I don't recall if the metal handlebar structure is different for the MFD-in-the pad version. You can check the Polaris Industries parts online cross reference to see if the part numbers are the same. Links are in my signature.

I should have a MFD harness and a black HB pad with oval cut out if you are interested.

Handle bars are the same. Mfd or not.
