I had mine do that in an endurance race last year, almost wide open for over 30 minutes at a time, it just melts away with the high heat, high rpms and a little lean,
cut it flush or leave it alone,

I think this one is salt damage. The j pipe was fused to it, I had to beat it apart with a rubber hammer & chip away the salt & oxidized alum. just to get to this.
When you guys say "cut it flush" do you mean that whole extension all the way back to the manifold? or just even it off?

U could cut it flush to the Flange, or just behind the melted part. It's there mostly for alignment into the J-pipe. It's not necessary tho, the V-band clamp holds things in the right place.
