Exclamation Attention AWA members and riders along the Gulf Coast.

Due to a frivolous lawsuit brought by radical environmentalists, the National Park Service (NPS) has been forced to review public access for personal watercraft at Gulf Islands. Data in the National Park Service original 2004 Environmental Assessment claimed that PWC negatively affect water and air quality, wildlife, visitor use and safety. Your AWA strongly contested this so-called data at the time as being more speculative than actual facts applying to and collected at Gulf Islands.

However, science-challenged anti access organizations seized upon the NPS statements and forced the NPS to redo the 2004 regulations based on new data. Park officials have more important issues to deal with than wasting your tax dollars on a “new” study to appease fringe environmental groups from California.

The Seashore is conducting surveys to calculate more accurate data on personal watercraft use in the area, along with evaluating the impacts of the watercraft on sea grass beds, air and water quality, and wildlife and visitor experience in terms of noise pollution.

Your input regarding their proposed plans will be very important in allowing continued access for PWC in the Seashore.

You may review the proposed plans at

If at all possible, please join with AWA staff and attend one of the public scoping sessions and make your voice heard. Your voice matters.

    The Meetings will be held:

Monday, November 18, 3:30 to 7:30 PM at the Naval Live Oaks Visitor Center 1801 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, Fl. 32563

Tuesday, November 19, 3:30 to 7:30 PM at the Davis Bayou Visitor Center, 3500 Park Road, Ocean Springs, Ms. 39564

You can be sure that anti access groups who want to take away your public access to your public waterways will be making their voice heard. Your participation and ideas for safe and responsible use of these waterways are critical to future PWC riding in Gulf Islands National Seashore.
