    Black electrical box question

I am working on a 720 in a 99 GTI for a friend and the damn thing will not spark. Can you tell me if the white wire coming into the black box to clip onto the coil should have voltage? I am reading my manuals and I cannot find how to test the coil or the schematic for the GTI. Anything else look out of place?

does anyone know which wire to check the resistance of of the generating coil with. The book says that the black with black and red wire should have 40-76ohms. I checked that wire with the black wire from the generating for oil and could not get a reading.

the alternating current test by the book claims 18 to 25 alternating current. This one checks out as 0 I think I have a bad Magneto.

Dumb question here... but i gotta ask before i diagnose further... Does the beeper work when you put the key on, does the start button engage the starter? Reason i ask is i can see ark marks on the top of the solenoid that could be indicating that someone is using a screw driver to jump and turn the motor over... Other than that everything looks pretty normal in the box, some of those had a loose black wire that had to be hooked to ground coming out of the box, if that isn't hooked up then there is no spark.

If there is no beep, and no start button then ask the history... if it has been foolishly jump started from a running vehicle, or any other similar debauchery has occurred then the MPEM is toast. My experience is that a bad mpem is the #1 reason for loss of spark...

#2 cause of no spark for me has always been a bad pickup trigger/stator or broken wires to it.

It is a bad stator. Just replaced it and in the process of putting it back together.
