    The 310 and the SCOM

I am wondering how the 310 will react to the SCOM on 91 octane. Remember, the 310 will have a Fuel Octane Sensor baked into the ECU. This is not overridable nor should it be. My understanding of the Fuel Octane Sensor is that if the engine is not happy with the octane level in the tank, regardless of circumstance or scenario, it will either slow the Ski down or put it into some kind of limp mode (not sure which yet).

The SCOM's do allow for more RPM, which in turn is creating more heat. No doubt SCOM's will find their way onto some 310's.

    Thoughts? JB

John it's not a octane sensor. It's a knock sensor. Scom has nothing to do with how it works. If it knocks it will reduce power otherwise it's Business as usual.

I would bet that it detects knock then pulls timing which slows you down not because its a limiter but because you don't have the power to keep the speed and rpms up. SCOM doesn't come into play at that point.

SO the new 310s have a knock sensor now? Good job on that Kawi!!! That should eliminate the problems of guys getting crappy fuel and ruining their motors.

I wouldn't rely on the knock sensor as a saviour for poor fuel quality remember I had knock on mine and it cost me a motor

Better to have it and not need it... or hope it works at least. Now let's work on getting rid of that exhaust filter, huh Kawi?

OK, got it . . . "knock sensor" not "octane sensor". I think for 2014 Exhaust Filter is still in there Vic. I will probably keep an extra one on the shelf just in case. JB

I'm sure we would have heard here if it had been deleted.

I kept a spare exhaust filter in stock as well as the exhaust crossover hose- just in case. They came along on all the longer trips...

Sounds like You've made Your mind up and are getting one, huh?! Congrats!

Yes. This is "in addition to", not "instead of" the YAMs . . . The YAMs will stay. JB
