    Intercooler comparison?

Has anyone compared the results of the different intercoolers offered for the RXP? I would like to know the the performance results of a direct test between the RR, Riva, XS and the Piranha and durability/dependability as well.

Do a forum search on this! There are a lot of opinions on this!

I have tested them all with the exception of the Piranha which will probably produce similar results to the Riva as its a copy.

Rotax Racing gives the lowest output temps, but its more restrictive than the others. My theory on this is since its more restrictive it produces slower air speed and has more time to cool the air charge down.

The Riva produces 1 psi more boost than the RR and gives 100-150 more RPM's

The XS is a very large intercooler with big inlet/outlets, the largest of all the IC's mentioned. I back to back tested this IC against a Riva IC and the Riva IC outperformed it and gave 100 + more RPM's. My theory on this is the XS is so free flowing that it doesn't cool the air charge near as good as the Riva.

So far the Riva outperformed everything i've tested.

there's a starting point for your reading. xs cooler seems to run pretty well when put up against the expensive coolers. the cost savings are substantial for small difference in performance. bottom line.. riva is the way to go if you want 100% maximal performance. xs cooler is the way to go if you dont mind being the 95% guy that saved $800+ on an intercooler setup.

I concur on the "slower airspeed cools it more" theory, based on the airflow work that I have done...The XS is like a sewer pipe compared to the Riva/Piranha...

Also, there are plumbing packages for all of the units EXCEPT the XS, which is like the DIY setup for the guy on a budget...

The Piranha may be a very good buy then if it's an exact copy of the Riva. It looks to be $400+ cheaper than the Riva. I wish someone would test it

The link posted above shows a test of the xs vs the Riva but I don't see a test of the Piranha.

Here is the links for the air flow work I did...it shows AIR FLOW, not COOLING...The results show which unit is more/less restrictive...
