Valve Train Upgrade - Do I Need To Remove Head?

Picked up a set of Supertech valves, springs, retainers, and keepers.

If I can locate a Riva tool to borrow, do I need to pull the head? Or can I do the upgrade in situ?

No need to remove the head with the Riva tool when just doing a valve train upgrade, but to install valves the head must come off!

If you're doing valves then the head has to come off, mine's on the bench waiting for valves. You should replace the valve seals as well since you're in there.

If you were only doing springs, retainers and keepers then the head can stay on and you need the RIVA tool or something similar.

Putting in new valves -- so looks like the head will come off.

And in that case, I'll just send it over to Eastside Powersports to make sure it's done right.

    update

Great Update. 2006 seadoo is Much needed. these skis had the 72 prefix partnumber on the upper valve stem. I have 2 skis I need to do myself..... The cyl head assemble will need to come off & you will need a couple of timing tools and new gaskets to get the timing set properly when you reassemble it. be aware the chain tensioner is like a Lifter. IT MAY FULLY EXTEND WHILE IT IS OUT on the table... push the check ball in and depress the tensioner asssembly it to bleed the oil out of it before you reinstall. This is especially true if you cannot get the chain tensioner retaining nut started back into the block?? Do Not Force it...... remove the chain tensioner and bleed the oil out. You can see the check ball in the
end of the tensioner. Also If you take the head Off?? DO NOT forget the Small 6mm Screws (2) at the front of the head under cam gear. Those are impossible to see if you dont know they are there.

I'd prefer it be a shop that's familiar with the BRP engines, but I don't want to take it to a stealership, either.

Good call on the shop that knows 4-Tecs anytime valves are changed it is recommended a full 3 angle grind be preformed.
