FIRST post, FIRST Ski...PLEASE help GreenHulk
Hello GH, I am new so take it easy on me. So I have been researching pwcs for a while now and I have narrowed it down to 3. I am having trouble making up my mind and maybe everyone could help a little. This is going to be my first ski and I set a budget for $3000 for it. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less. 90% of the time I am going to be jumping waves in the salt. I want ski that I can really launch off some waves. Holeshot is so much more important than top speed for me. 95% of the time it will just be me on it, very rarely with a passenger. With my budget and this in mind I have determined that I would be best with a 2-stroke 2 seater. Any nice 4 strokes I cant afford and would like to wait til later in life for one right now. THE 3 SKIS ARE...A)96 seadoo xp/97-99 spx. B)Yamaha GP800"not the R" and..C)the Kawasaki Ultra 150. What do you guys think as far as fuel economy, fun factor, air catching ability, parts availability and reliability?? How much gas would the ultra use compared to the other 2? IS there extra maintance for the RAVE motor? which one would you own and why?? Also the blaster and HX are too extreme and light for me. Close runner up is the GP1200 not the R. but I am worried about gas consumption with it. is the gp1200 that bad on gas? any help would be appreciated thankyou!!!

I have a 1200 use it for the sole purpose of wave jumping, and horsing around in general. It is true it can burn 12 gals in little more than a hour at wot. However, you are not ever sustaining wot jumping waves. I burn 8-10 gals in about 3 hours of strictly jumping waves. Not cruising anywhere at all.

Ha, I was gonna say '96 XP.
Not sure what condition you'll find those skis in today though!

96xp or 97-99xpx all the way. Lite, nimble, and harder acceleration. Rotax motors accel faster than reed injected motors.

Ever consider a standup ski? That's all I ever see those things doing on YouTube is tricks and wave jumping.

Why don't you put that 3k as a down payment on a spark??
Full warranty and very little fuel used compared to other pwc.
Older pwc can get real expensive real quick with repairs.
Spark has great hole shot and should be great for wave jumping.
Full doo warranty so no fuss over repairs.
Older 2 smokes should be completely gone thru prior to wave jumping. The last thing you need is for it to crap out and have a wave smash you.
Just my .02

Hey wotxxxsd ...that is a great idea. You are on to something there ... if he has $3K, the dealer might finance the $2500. and payments would have to be very small I am guessing .. gosh no worries. Great advice for newbe

From all of my reading, i'm thinking that the Spark is going to fit what you need exactly... Warranty and all, it is going to be the best bet. Resale should be pretty good for a while as well if you decide you want something different.

Yeah, go up and read the Spark section under SeaDoo. There are guys posting wave jumping vids and everything.
