1996 Project: TYPHOON ! the Beast of the East!
OK, another really nice 1996 Polaris Hurricane came to me from Kansas City, MO. earlier in October this year. It has 15.3 legit hours of runtime based upon the condition of it, and the MDF matching quite well. The 700 motor has 139 psi in one hole, 141 in the other. Prop, vanes and wear rings are nice and clean other than one minor stick / hard rock ding. Hull is super clean, decals are minty, paint and gel-coat are nice. Even has a sweet trailer and a Cover.
First thing to do with it, go for a water test. It ran fine, but carbs were boggy and it just wouldn't hit WOT. 44 mph was the best it did, so Back on the trailer it went. Cleaned the carbs (stock dual 38 Kiehen) went back out did 48.8 on GPS. Went into limp mode. WTF.... OK, opened the hood. Water everywhere. No idea why. Back to the shop. It runs.... but had other projects and a hectic work schedule as a Chef, so it had to wait. Well, now it is winter, and have a long off season to figure out the issues before the first IJSBA races for 2014 start up again in the Northeast.
I rode a 'cane a few years ago, and loved it. Had researched and read and looked at a lot of stuff, but never found the time or available $ to get another boat till this year, and everything fell into place. Now have a "HIS and HER - A- CANES" that my wife and I will ride next season as "matching boats".... as dorky/sappy as it is
cept... uh.... much like us.... We are different people, so different setups as we "unique"
THE OTHER CANE: http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=415259
This one is "HER-A-CANE" deemed TheTYPHOON.
After getting the first boat, I began an earnest search for the legendary Twin-pipes of FACTORY or other manufactuers. What amazed me is that some of our members here actualy posted for sale this exact said item. Beerdart, and Kieth were awesome enough to "remind me" they were up as I at first had skimmed past what they were saying "yeah right.... this is a scammer just messing with me". Turns out it was Legit.
500.00 + S/H later I had twin pipes....
MATT, thanks mang ! I got the proto-set of HOTSEAT Twin-pipes and they literaly were just in my the back yard ! So close to NY !
Took me a month (or 2) to find the cash for all the stuff for this build, but it is going good.
Here is where it is at....

Pulled the pump, Swaped out for a 6 vane and it had bad seals and bent Vanes, Sent out to IMPROS for repitching to 10.5/ 16.5 and to be fixed for all intent and purposes. Extending the rideplate, and Hull, Custom fab-ing a few brackets, relocated the Temp sensor, removed Oil pump, added a primer, and working on a few components. Got a set of Kiehen 40mm Carbs with the proper jetting and fuel Acel-pump on them from Doug (TXPRO) and will install it soon. Also have a Virage Single carb and manifold I hope to try also as it seems to do really well on the larger boats with the same motor in them.

Once knowing everything fit, I dropped off the bongs and heads to : http://www.powdertechinc.com/ They do really nice work, and I felt that a set of these one of a kind pipes that have not really seen the light of day in a good few years needed the royal introduction. Having them doen in High heat ceramic Black, and Polaris Red along with the TDR waterbox and stock RnD Intake Pump Grate just for giggles sake.

Her-cane has an easy access step bar which if in rough waters will really HELP A LOT with boarding.. Wayne from WETWORX should get one for his HX.. cause he seems to like swimming... (hurrr hurr hurrr) GO REGION 8 MOVING SPLIT ! Added a water tight box to the tank, but won't stick cause it expands too much. will relocate that to another area once pipes are in.

SO, a bunch of work, and added time,Hammer and saws and tigers Oh my! The headpipes are filled with 16 years of rust, and are back from powdercoating prematurely, but for a good cause, Chemical Flushing! Hope to be clean and flowing water nicely, all the thin wall rust spots fixed, and back to PC before Jan 15th. Since my wife has Reynauds, and her hands get cold easily I decided to put in WetWolf's sprayer handle bars. Unfortunatley it is WINTER in the north east, and I can not find anywhere some micro 1/4 spray jets, so if any kind hearted souls can find me some rain-mist sprayers I would be greatly appreciative!
Next week the anticipated BOTC (Brotherhood Of The Cane)graphic will be available, and is open to ALL who have a HURRICANE and the only requirement for membership is you own a Hurricane.... Sticker is FREE !
