04 rxp - not charging battery. tips?

Got a bone stock rxp and yesterday it just wouldn't charge the battery.

I know the 07 rxt turbo I have inside out, but these ski's have mpem etc.

Anyone got a link to media fire for service manual? Or suggestions? Pics would help too. Thanks in advance

There are two 30 amp fuses down by the starter solenoid. On the bracket for the MPEM. Check those first. If they are good you will probably need a Regulator/Rectifier.

    Thanks cliff.

The engine will start and run providing +12vdc is present..
    Is mpem under the steering?

MPEM is under the white storage bucket in the front....IF its not the fuses chances are the regualtor is bad....If you have a volt/ohms meter this is easy to check....

Thanks snowman. I suspect its voltage regulator.
Any way resistance can be checked across the regulator?

Start the ski, take you meter and touch the posts on the battery,it should show 13 or so volts..if its lower then its not charging..

    DC Voltage Test
    Proceed as follows:
    – Set multimeter to Vdc scale.
    – Connect multimeter to battery posts.
    – Start engine.
    TEST ENGINE SPEED VOLTAGE
    5500 RPM Max. 15 Vdc

    Thanks snow.

I did that @ boat ramp, its definitely not charging. Can I measure output from magneto @ mpem? Or voltage into regulator??

    RECTIFIER/REGULATOR
    Continuity Test
Due to internal circuitry, there is no static test available
    to check continuity.
    DC Current Test
    Proceed as follows:
    – Remove charging system fuse.
    %1;+
    – Connect probes to fuse holder terminals.
    – Set multimeter to Adc.
    – Start engine.
    TEST ENGINE SPEED CURRENT
    6000 RPM min. 5 A
    – Read current.
    – If current is below specification, check magneto
(stator) output prior to concluding that rectifier
    is faulty.
    – Reinstall fuse.

    – Install the 3-pin magneto harness adapter
    (P/N 529 036 016) between unplugged connectors.
    529036016
    – Set multimeter to ohms.
    – Connect multimeter between YELLOW wires.
    TERMINAL RESISTANCE @
    20C (69F)
    1 and 2
    1 and 3
    2 and 3
    RESISTANCE @
    20C (69F)-0.1 - 1
    – Read resistance.
    %1;9
    – If any result is out of specification, replace stator.
    – Replug connectors properly
