    3D Printers..

    Anyone have any 3D printer experience? My kid wants to build one he decided on the makerfarm Prusa 8" i3 kit. All the research ive done says its a great kit and should preform well. Im excited to help build and make parts.

    How tough/durable are the parts that come out of these ?

    Depending on the filament used very strong.

    I wasnt super happy with the texture of the parts, the one I played with might have been an earlier model but for what o wanted to do, casting or milling them seemed better. I love the idea and im interested to see what yall come up with.

    What was the print layer resolution? This on is 100 micron aprox .0039"

    Im not sure, it was visably rough. I was looking for a smooth glossy finish.

    We have 3 of them at my school. they print with ABS plastic, I can get some info on them thursday when i go in.

    more of a novelty thing in my opinion, helps sometimes with 3D models when designing things but most of the time its just people making random crap as jokes.

    call me when you can print a steak......(next ten years no doubt) read somewhere that somebody printed a human ear....

    exciting technology at an affordable price. BD start making polaris throttle levers pleeze....

    We have one similar at our shop, and we are working on making changes to it for the manufacturer. It does a good job with making small parts, but nothing that is production grade. Once we figure out the frame we will be making a small desktop style version with a small CNC head, for people wanting to make small parts for themselves, or small production runs...Its all neat stuff when in the right hands...
