    Just picked up a 1987 Kawasaki X2

Just dropped a few hundred on a near-mint condition barely used 1987 Kawasaki X2. One owner.

The ski is nothing but stock except for a beefier handlebar.

Bought it from the original owner, who was in his late 50s. He bought it new in the late 80s and said he only used it a couple summers on the lakes. When I asked how many hours he estimated probably less than 25. It was winterized and stored since about 1993. While the storage place wasn't anything real special, the ski had an extremely easy life asleep. Owner just posted it on Craigslist the other day, but only after he returned the ski into running condition with drained and new fluids, brand new battery, new oil line, and new spark plugs. He said the ski started up just like the day he remembered. The seat looks great - no tares or rips. Everything is there. Only about 2% of the bottom hull has beech scratches. There are some blemishes around the hull but only very minority cosmetic - A good clean polish and the ski should shine like its only a couple years old. It has not been washed in 20 years.

For me, I was more curious about looking to see what it was all about. I could not let it out of my sight! The engine is measuring perfect with 150/155 psi compression. Runs and idles like a dream on land. A few of my stand-up buds gave me the green light and its now in my possession. At $700 it might not have been the least expensive 1987 X2, but it still a collectible IMO. This is my first Vintage ski, and in fact it's my first Vintage anything >25 year old motorized vehicle.

It is/was in a LOT better shape than before I restored my 1996 RN SJ.

The under hull picture is showing smudgy blemishes. One of these is sticker adhesive.

Wow! That is worth every penny. Great looking X-2. You will have a lot of fun with that. Add a bilge pump. Always a good move.
I noticed NV on it. That where you are located?

No, I am in Atlanta GA. The owner lived in Navada but moved to Georgia in 2006. He said the ski stayed behind in Nevada storage for awhile. The last registration expired in 1993.

Scooped up a west coast intake grate on fleabay for $10.
Had a local Jetski guru check on the carb, the 28mm stock one needed new fuel hose barbs due to plastic cracking.
Ski guru sold me a set of Boysen<sp> reeds so off came the stock metal ones.
The omp broke while I was removing it. Ski now getting premix.

Still need crank dump block plate

Pressure tested motor holds 10psi for a long time.

Its ys actually running a bit better now not like it was bad before
