Gulf Coastal Goodness: Jetski Junkiesí Annual New Yearís Day Ride

Every New Yearís Day, a few brave souls tempt fate and take to the water to prove they are as mighty as the gods by beating back Mother Nature and rising above the elements. Some might say that is a bunch of B.S. because you live in Florida and Florida is a riderís paradise. That may be true for eleven months out of the year, excluding of course, tropical storms, hurricanes, sink holes, and other natural disasters that just are a way of life here in the South. [Editor's Note: Sorry, but Florida - particularly Central Florida down - is not "The South"] Each year on New Yearís Day, itís a crapshoot but we ride nonetheless, and this year rung in some of the worst New Yearís Day weather weíve had in years.

    Good Article..
We missed the Tampa Bay Polar Bear ride this year. Had our own difficult weather to deal with at home, among other things.

Ice storm. Power outages for several days. Serious cold. Wind. More ice. More cold, with strong winds. Wind chill numbers very negative. Having a proper winter, we are!

Hmmm, maybe I should be in Florida...

Mine was about the same and that was the first weekend of November. If its over 40 I will ride, unless its really windy.

Yeah we have these things called wetsuits. Short of a small craft warning we go. Some of the best riding weather is in the winter here. Sunny, warm and smooth (too at times) water.

Small craft advisory makes for some fun times....
