    C3/R3 160 Prop Pitch?

I am going to be running a C3/R3 combo (for now) & was hoping someone could point me into the correct pitch with a 160 Skat prop? I have a 13' Fx with an 87 nozzle, and am looking to spin around 8300-8400 rpm's. Will also be running a good IC, BOV, intake & TJ exhaust. Don't have to squeeze out every last MPH, just more interested in a good leading edge for Holeshots & not spinning too high. I am thinking of jumping into a 160 setup, so I can try to hang with those pesky 80 mph SVHO's that will be out in force soon!

    Thanks for any input,
    Wayne

pitch around 13/19 but with that wheel at that low of an rpm with the 160 your speed will likely be very low around 76ish.at that speed you wont be able to fight off many skis.you may want to consider a slightly bigger wheel with more low end power before setting up that prop at those low of an rpm.if your dead set on running low rpms and a 160 prop i would be looking at a et15.5

I already have the C3 and am just looking for something to run for a few months, before I go big. Figure I will need the liner later anyway, so it's just a matter of getting the right 160 prop for now.

Here is a quote from the recent 80 mph SVHO thread -

    More updates

With a dual impeller he ran 79.7 mph at 8640 rpm
    With a Riva/Skat 15/23 depitched to a 22 he also ran a 79.7 at 8260 rpm

Since the stock SVHO wheel seems to be pushing around the same as a C3, I am just hoping to be able to pull close to the same prop, around 8400ish. I don't know if there is any boost gains by spinning the C3 over 8400? Figure the 87 nozzle will get me an degree on the trailing edge, just have no idea how the 15 leading edge will effect the hole shot.

that test was ran with a VIPEC and while the new ski is virtually the same i would not take direct comparison between the two.you will have absolutely no problems running that wheel but at 13psi i wouldnt expect alot of speed.its possible the big prop may cause it to feel lazy i would patient and do it right the first time.

When I had the R2 reflash with a C3 wheel, jd intercooler.
I tried the 160 prop and liner. I had a hard time getting the rpms above 8k. Even with a13/17 pitch prop. Very sluggish. Not enough power to turn the prop.
I went back to the 155 liner and a 14/23 skat prop. Until I went with a bigger wheel.

Thank you both for the great info! Not what I was hoping to hear, but exactly what I needed to know.

I thought it might be real close for pushing a 160, but that confirms it. Guess I was just looking for an excuse to upgrade something else, before doing a "real" build. I do already have both a 13/23 & 13/25 Skat 155's. So hopefully one of those will do the trick for now.

the out of the box skat 13/25 is one hell of a prop.i had to bend one all the way down to a 21 to turn decent rpms with a low boost wheel.should be more than enough hookup for 13psi.

If you stay with the 155mm, use the 13/23 that you have. You should be able to get really close to 80mph with it. I was just hitting 80 with a B1/R3 on an R&D rideplate. If you go to a 160mm, you will lose speed. I dropped down to 76.xx when I switched to a 13/20 160mm prop and riva pump. I have since gone to an ET wheel and a 12/19 prop, but haven't got a chance to test it out yet.

I'm keen to see what pros the best for the c3 and flash setup, I've got a skat 13/21 in my fzr it's not moving an arse hair over 76.3 at the moment. I was also thinking of pitching upto 13/23

saying this our weather is 80f+ same with water temp! I've ran an 80 once but that was cold weather, fuel light on and lean.

I just tried out my LB/R3 combo with the 160 pump this weekend. I got a best run of 78.8 and top speed average of 78.4 running a 12/19 prop. I was also running a little rich and didn't really mess with the trim at all since going with the 3* 85mm nozzle. With better AFRs, I should be able to touch 80, and some adjustment to the cone and maybe boring the nozzle to 86mm should get me a little more. The holeshot is amazing, almost too good. There is no cavitation, but the ski completely jumps out of the water, so I still have to let off for a blip when it gets airborne.
