    I don't recommend those vests.

    They look cheap and ugly.

Go for JetPilot, best gear out there.

jet pilot is nice but they run small.

as for cheap and ugly i have to disagree with ya there. i still have my slippery vest from 98-99 hanging in my closet that is still fully functional though it is faded. to each their own.

I agree with the fact that people like their first reliable vests.

I mean I still use my HO sports vest when I bought my ski, they're awesome.

But now since I am more sporty and into faster ski's I want to be matching, have the coolest gear for a good price.

    I therefore chose Jet Pilot.

Sporty/fancy/ none of that crap matters. Some styles of mentioned brands are not even USCG type 3 approved.
Best practice make SURE you get a vest that will turn you over face UP in the water if you hit and are knocked unconcho.
Looks don't matter much if your dead.
If the models in question met that criteria then its all good.

agreed. my old slippery has done just that after i came off my 99 GTX in a cross wake and skipped like a stone about 4 or 5 times.

Very few PFD are actually rated for turning an unconscious wearer face up in the water.

    I don't have a recommendation for a specific product.

My understanding is that the majority of PFD models purchased and sold for boating and watercraft riding do NOT provide floatation capable of turning a facedown person into a face up position. The life jackets that do tend to have a large and bulky front floatation section, which is what does the actual turning over of an unconscious person.

Type I and Type II designations are the types which 'should' turn the wearer face up, even if unconscious.

Type III designation is not required to turn the wearer face up.

For your own PFD, this is not hard to self-test. Wade/swim into deep enough water, then hold your breath, relax your muscles and allow yourself to float face down, waiting for the jacket to rotate your face out of the water. If the jacket keeps you floating, but not face up, then it doesn't.

Read about the differences between Type I, Type II, and Type III floatation.

Note how most PFD are rated as Type III, which tend to be the more comfortable fit designs, even for the High Speed models.
