Took the sponsons off my old FX and was mortified how far through they had rubbed into hull

Yeah the durability of the hull certainly is an issue and I have to be honest I don't think I would buy another Yamaha until they improve it's strength.

In Yamaha's defense, companies are always working on product improvements. That being said, it is disgusting that this flimsy NanoXcel material has been used since 2008 without an apparent improvement in durability. As I've said before, the designers must have expected riders to only use the boats about 25 hours a year and in calm waters. The cynic in me says the reason the bottom deck is always painted black is so the cracks that start almost immediately are less visible.

Um, YES! Remember all of the incidences of cracked tunnels? Ask Coco how many of his tunnel reinforcement pieces he has sold. I still contend there are many cracked hulls out there but the owners don't know it because they never check for them. I remember the conversation I had with the service manager at the shop that repaired the tunnel on my '12 FZR. The rep at Yamaha asked him how I knew my tunnel was cracked. I said I just happen to inspect my equipment before every ride to ensure it is seaworthy.

Just remember the GPR also had problems with busted tunnels. I am not saying that the nano hull is not softer but other boats have had some of the same problems. I have seen a RXTX tunnel bust also.Oldman

Any time you push a ski well beyond the limitations it was designed for you open up risk of this kind of damage. Thankfully we have these pump tunnel reinforcements that make it easy for us to strengthen up our hulls. In fact, I need to get busy installing one on this new SVHO ski of mine
