    Filter replacement reminder

Well my ski has clocked 60hrs but the last few hrs it has had a hesitant start whilst on the water, yep a sure sign filter is gone. Who ever says running without the filter does not effect starting on the water is full of sh it, it does I dont care what your excuse is.. as my filter was completely gone and I had no rpm loss I needed to be sure it was gone, well guess what as pictured I had to cut the waterbox in half to remove it. Only a few weeks back a guy I helped had exactly the same problem. Wonder how many of these are going to show up to the unwary. Click image for larger version.

It should be a service item, not to inspect, but REPLACE every 50 hours! At around $80 to replace now, it's pretty cheap to do.

I've got two exhaust filters in my garage at the moment, both with 50 hours, and both look OK, but I bet they would fail within 5-20 hours (well before the next "inspection" period).

Thanks for starting the thread nicjak. Those of us that actually own an ultra and not a copied picture of one have just learned something new.

Like I said this isnt the first filter to jam in the waterbox baffles. I bet some owners wouldn't even know

Yep, as long as the Pipe is open . . . replace. Not worth the hassle if it gets blown into the water box. There is reason it's called a "Service Item". 50 hours . . . toss it. JB

I agree to the extent that the Ski will "run" without it. But since having it in place doesn't effect performance I see no reason not to have it.

It does prevent some condensation vapors from back filling into the engine. JB
