Opinion on purchasing 2001 XLT1200 with 256 hours

hey guys.. im looking at purchasing a 01 xlt1200.. it has 256 hours that he bought to use over the summer and now is selling.. only record i know of is i was able to track down the old owner. she said driveshaft and impeller housing has been changed. as far as motor i am not sure if its been rebuilt.

my question is if i did a compression test and it came out good should i worry? he wants $1500 with trailer.. hull is in good shape.

250 is high, but if well maintained, then your good.
I am sure a top end has to have been done by this point...

1500 bucks, thats a great deal with a trailer.

my opinion, stay away from it. to old, to many hours , unless its real clean inside with only 10% corrosion, look down in between the engine and exhaust pipe for corrode carburetors , carbs can get expensive , also the pump out back.
    good luck.

I wouldnt be too afraid of it. Just keep in mind it may require spending some money in the near future. If its cosmetically nice I would go for it. I would be worth rebuilding if it were necessary. If it looks ugly then I would be more concerned about buying it.

    Cool

    Offer less than they want.
Its winter and skis are selling very slow.
If you can't ride it before buying it walk away.
No way would i buy it without riding it.

i agree with you , but prices on 4 strokes are so low right now that it will be a waste of money investing on 2strokes, imagine at 256 hours, lets said it already has a top end rebuild , lets hope its not from [S.B.T] , then how many more hours the bottom end its going to hold? at 256 , not many more.
so $1500 + 500 on rebuilt crank, + seals + labor, and all the preventive maintenance ,[carb rebuild ] etc.
he will buy a vx and spend more time on the water. i'm not a fan on vx' s ,but it will be a better choice.

Price is good if it checks out. If you like to wrench on your own skis, get it.
If all you want to do is ride wait until you can find a $2500 4-stroke.

I just tested compression 110 across.

Hull has dings and scratches. Water stain from sitting in lake.

i backed out even though he was willing to take 1300
