    2003 XLT 1200 Crank Help

Ok I picked up an 2003 XLT 1200 for a steal. Bad compression in center cylinder. I am in the process of replacing the cylinder and piston with OEM parts. Question is should the crank and pistons spin completely free. I can move the crank by hand then it hits a spot were I have to use some large pliers to move it beyond that point. This does not seem to be normal to me but then again that's why am reaching out to the pros. If it is not normal what would cause it to stick? Thanks in advance for your help.

with the bad cylinder in place ,yes it will stick at some point. w/o the bad cylinder it should spin freely all the way around. I assume you have all the plugs out, right?

did you remove the head to assess the damage? you may have debris from the damage on the bottom , careful not to make a hole while trying to turn . remove the bad cylinder and inspect the crank rod , make sure the top where the wrist pin ride is smooth and check for debris on the bottom.
if clean, a good use cylinder/piston kit will fix it .

Thanks for the replies...This is with the head off new cylinder in place. No signs of any debris in the crank. After further troubleshooting I think my wear ring my be swollen and the impeller is rubbing at spots when rotating it. Trying to pull the pump now to see if it spins freely once removed the problem now is I have removed the reverse housing, hoses, steering linkage and four long bolts but I cant get the pump housing to break loose. I inserted a small screw driver in the pry spots but it is not breaking loose. Any suggestions?

Ok got the pump out...heat gun did the trick. Crank spins freely so the wear ring was the issue. Guess I needed just a little more patience today.
