Took the triple pipe ski out today...no high end power

I finally got my gp1200r back together. The mid pipe on the triple pipes is a real pain to tighten down but I used t-bar clamps on all of it so hopefully it will stay together for a while.

It idled fine and mid range was very punchy but when I finally gave it full throttle it just fell on its face. It was as if I hit the kill switch. It kept running after it went back down to a mid range again.

I added half a turn on the high end screw to enrichen the mixture and it got worse. So I am thinking it was too rich. I will try and lean it out the next time I go I ran out of daylight before I could really get to tuning it.

I never had a ski act so dramatic over a rich condition before. Could it be anything else?

Ski is a 99 Riva GP1200r triple pipe.

Well this is a Riva triple pipe GP1200, so theoretically it should be all set up with the correct jetting and carb mods to run correctly, right? So if the jetting, pop-off, and screw turns are set to where Riva wanted them then it would almost have to be something else. Did you modify anything (carb or engine related) from what Riva had?

I'm not the original owner. The ski had low compression when I got it, it was traded in for a new ski. I can only assume nothing was moved on the carbs but who knows. When I rebuilt the engine I went through the carbs and they were very clean. I put it back together with the same settings. I think its highly rich. I will try and spend some more time tuning it but it is very cold now.

If tuning doesn't get your ski running the way u want then you might wanna verify the carbs are setup like Riva had them. Did you write down what size jets, the screw settings, and pop-off you have in each carb? Maybe we can dig through some old threads and find the Riva specs for comparison.

Unfortunately I did not write any of that down....I did write down the screw settings but only kept that until I put it back together.

Hopefully a little more time tuning will fix it. I just never had a ski fall on its face so abruptly from that high of a throttle setting before.

No its a 65U. 99 GP1200 modified by riva hence the gp1200r. They made around 50 of these not all 50 are triple pipe. The triple pipe skis claim 185HP. Should be pretty fun once I get her running right.

I have had a few skis including a couple gp1200s and a newer powervalve gp1200R...so far this one handles amazing and low/mid range was impressive.

Got it pretty well dialed in now. The torque is amazing.
