Best Floating Hand Held GPS Unit?

    Hello all,

I am relatively new to the PWC world but I'd like to know what is the best floating hand held GPS unit available for PWCs?

These products change fast so I am asking even though there are some discussions on this topic.

    Thanks,

    Welcome

    Best in what ways?

What do you want to use it for? Speed measuring, chart/map display, navigation in unfamiliar areas?

Large screen size? Low cost? Compact size?

Easy to mount? Easy to see in bright sunshine? Easy to read at speed on rough water?

Floating only matters if you drop it Attach a float with a lanyard or adhesive and any of them can be made to float. Or just mount it securely and dont drop it...

Do a search on GPS's. There have been a number of threads on diff. models and ways people are mounting them

Handheld that floats narrows you down to a 78 for Garmin. I have one with no complaints and they actually don't replace them very often. The previous model 76 was made for several years. Lake maps aren't included though.

    Thanks!

I would use it for navigation primarily when I do take my PWC to work….

You going to be mounting the GPS to the watercraft or holding it in your hand while riding?

Smooth water or rough water riding?

I have a Garmin Legend HCx...
it had an option handlebar mount that I bought for my bicycle, it could be easily adapted for Jet Skis...
I had to modify the back cover just a little with a dremel because of the memory card in the unit.
Does it float....dunno, haven't tried it...but its a great little unit, little being the keyword....
might be difficult to read while bouncing along the water at 40 - 50 mph....

Purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 78 for this up coming season. Love it so far, after some basic research it seemed to be the "best bang for the buck". Waterproof, floats and has quick satellite acquisition.
