1996 Seadoo xp Rebuild, possibly 951 swap

Hey all, just bought a pretty beat up xp for 400 bucks...im going to be posting pictures and progress along the way. ive read some guys swapping in the 951 and i have some questions. Ive had a seadoo in the past with the 787 and i know they are pretty dependable engines. i guess my question is how dependable is the 951? Also, i know from reading some other posts that the mount locations are different as well as the exhaust port at the rear of the haul.. please if you guys have any other hints or helpful pieces of info before i dig in please help

951 is a good engine when properly looked after. Unlike the 787 and most Yamahas, the 951 won't take well to neglect. Fog it, keep water out of it, listen for any abnormal noises, and it will be great. I personally have a 95 I want to put a kawi 1100 in.

Good luck with the build! I just spent all winter rebuilding one I bought last fall and it was very rewarding to see the finished product. Just take your time and do it right the first time and you will have a ski that will last many more years. As for the 951 swap, I have been considering that for one of my other hulls. I'm just not sure if it's worth the trouble. I like to leave my engines stock for reliability so I dont see where 20 horsepower is worth it in some ways. But it would be fun to have something different. If you have any questions hit me up while all this stuff is fresh on my mind lol.

Speaking of kawasaki 1100cci also have a second thought about go with hybrid instead of 951cc. A 1100cc in a classic x4 hull.

It's easier than a 951. Rad dudes has an 1100 kawi to 720 seadoo bedplate, so it would just take a custom driveshaft, and it would all bolt up.
