    2013 GTI limited 155 questions

Me and a friend purchased a 2013 GTI limited that was not running but thought it was due to bad gas. We drained what we thought all the gas out and put fresh gas in. It would turn over but not hit. So changed plugs and double checked for spark. We had spark but it still would not crank. We found out the unit was still under warranty so we packed it up and took it to the dealer. The dealer informed us the system was still full of water and they could clean the tank and injectors for around 1300. We thought we could handle that so we picked up the unit. We then drained the tank again and made sure we got all gas out. Disconnected the fuel line at the rail and pump a gallon of gas throught the fuel pump into a bucket so to make sure all bad gas got out of the filter. Pulled the injectors to find them real dirty. Cleaned them and turned over the system to make sure gas was pumping out of injectors. Reinstalled everything and turned over unit. It cranked up but had a ton of smoke coming out from engine compartment. Found out that the resonator had cracked apart. So we pulled that part but still wanted to try and crank it knowing water and exhaust would go into bilge. Cranked unit turned on hose and it ran about 30 secs and died. We were not able to recrank the unit. Double checked for spark and it has it. The plugs smell like gas so we assume that we have gas. When truning over it sounds like it wants to hit a couple of times but does not start. They did run a copression check on unit at the shop and I believe it is 140 130 110 so not the best but thought it would still crank. Any ideas are appreciated. Can it run with out the resonator or is it a waste of time even trying to start it until we get a new part? Unit has been in salt and shows that on the engine. Dealer also replaced a couple of sensors under warranty.
    Thanks in advance

    Cool

Did you get all the water out of the oil and air intake system??
If you haven't then you need to...

How long has it had water in it???

Any ski that has been sunk before is going to have future gremlins appear and cause problems..

your plugs arent supposed to smell like gas. They might have fuel fouled and shorted themselves out, rendering them practically useless. They might spark on the surface under no pressure. but when you add compression it might not be enough to ignite properly. Replace the plugs and try again. Gap at the minimum clearance.

Going to try new plugs today. The oil looks good and does not appear to have water in it. Ive pulled the air box hose just to make sure there was no water in the box. As far as the intake goes is the best way to do this just to pull it? Thanks again
