RXP-X 260 Carbon Fiber Seat
this is just the "feeling out" stage.
a friend of mine works for John Force Racing in the carbon fiber / body shop. he took my seat home with him tonight.
he's going to see what it actually takes to pop a good plug and build a mold to give us a quality seat at a reasonable price.
I don't want to promote a piece of junk like some of those that showed up for the last gen. rxp hull.
I do want to try to put out a quality piece and keep it under $1k.
"j" is pretty sure he can have a plug done within the next 5 weeks and have a pretty good idea of a price.
initially, we're looking at a carbon fiber only (vs. carbon Kevlar) to keep the price in check, and using some coring especially up in the knee (ergo-lock) area.
for pricing, we're looking at a couple different ideas. 1- no padding or vinyl at all, buyer installs whatever he/she wants. 2- I've got a good vinyl guy here that can help come up with what ever you want to do on top of the cost of the seat.
some of the pure drag guys may not want anything other than a piece of hydro-turf glued to it. some guys might want a little bit of padding to try to make it a seat you can sit on more than 5 minutes.
either way, the initial mold will be approx. 1/2" "shorter " in the front- the main seating and knee area of the stock seat to accommodate whatever padding is used.
the stock (dry) seat is 25#, we're hoping to be around 8-9#
give me some feed back, let me know if it's worth the investment. how many of you are interested?
again, I'm not going to put out a $600.00 piece of crap that breaks apart, but trying to do a sub $1k seat that I can put my name on.

Paid that much for a fiberglass S3 seat. Air intakes/Rear air functional. Carbon fiber would be a lighter & stronger.

It would be nice if your guy had a plug that he could make the height you have mentioned and a 2 1/2 inch lower saddle vs. stock as many of the CC racers use. We all have our seats modified about the same, we lower about 2 1/2 inches, move the back support forward just a bit and remove some material from the front so we can get a little more forward.

I absolutely love my custom seat from LD Extreme! They have models for the TX, PX and older 2008 style seats right now. PM "cobra73" for more info.
