    Impeller/wear ring questions

Do these look good and what would cause the impeller to have these?

Wear ring looks like normal wear and use, Drive shaft shiney spot is where the hose that runs from the hull to pump tunnel is sucks in rubbing the shaft when you first take off and there is a vacuum in the pump tunnel, Now for the prop, the pitting or burning marks on the prop are cavation burns from air bubbles created by dull blade edges on the leading edge of the prop, rough edges on the intake grate and a intake grate that is not sealed with a plug kit or sealed with sealer, all of these will cause prop cavation burns. The smother and less disturbed water flow to the prop will help to keep cavation burns to a minimun. After market intake grate help keep this cavation down also . Yes there is a small amount of water has mixed with your pump grease but I have seen a lot like that which is not that bad yet, Tommy Jordan

It has an aftermarket intake Grate on it with a pump seal kit as well. I have noticed that the Grate is driving into the pump tunnel glass. I think that they didn't manufacture it right. I hope the Riva SS one I have doesn't do it. I am worried about it cracking my tunnel now.

I always thought that erosion on the O.D. of the impeller blade was from an air leak in the pump from above the water line. This could be from a leaky transom plate, ride plate, etc. What is your impeller/wear ring clearance? Is the boat used in salt water? If so, the wear ring could be shrinking from corrosion of the aluminum housing that the ring is cast into.
