Newer Hull RXP (2012, 2013) vs older RXP - Is the older one faster?

I'm looking at buying a used RXP. As I look around, I keep hearing people telling me that the Older model is the way to go. I'm assuming that they are referring to the older hull, could they be referring to another version of the "older" ski? Someone said something about "ceramic washers"? What year did that change happen?

Anyway, I am looking to spend about $5-$6k for a 2005 or newer RXP.

Today, I came across a 2012 RXP-X with 134 hours on it. It's recently had the supercharger rebuilt. They will let it go for $9k with a trailer. I wasn't looking to spend that much, but...it makes me think hard about it.

So, here's my question. I just want to bang around on my lake. I would likely do some basic mods on whatever I buy. I'm thinking a Riva Stage 1 kit would do the trick.

Is it true that an older ski is faster and more reliable? Is it true that they can be made faster for less money?

What about out of the box?

Concerns are reliability, faster for less, and initial out of pocket costs.

My vote is on the older ski's, I absolutely hate that JUNK iBR... Just be aware of what you're getting, expect to put valves in a 06 or earlier ski if it's still oem, etc. Do your research on the basic mods but IMHO I would take a pre-iBR ski any day.

I have an 08' RXT and it's been a jewel.

Why do you call it junk. Do you own one?

If you are only want to do basic mods and you ride on a lake, get the 2012. The 2012+ T3 hull is far superior to the older RXP hull on rough water and when rode correctly, nothing else turns like it.

Ceramic washers were in s/c doos thru 07.
08 and newer have all updated s/c and other weak points all worked out.
Compression test and ride anything your looking to buy.

Not one IBR problem on my ski so far. The t3 hull is a lot more playful and handles better than the older RXP hulls.

But if you want to go for all out speed go with the older hull.
