gtx di rpms & speed
Hi guys ,
Does any one know what rpm & speed would be reasonable on a standard 2002 Seadoo gtx di 951?
I get around 6600/6700 rpm and the speedo shows 42mph. Anyone know ? Do the speedo's under or over rate the actual speed on them ?
I thought It would have been more top end but I know these speedos are a bit rubbish. It's a lovely clean machine , the compression is perfect at 140psi each, 60 hrs,new plugs, engines runs very smooth, digs out of the hole nicely all seams fine just wondering about the speed really.

You should be seeing a few more rpms, maybe 6800 -6900 depends on the prop. Top speed should be around 58-62. The speedo normally reads high but if the paddle wheel is damaged, its possible to read low. GPS it to see the actual speed. It should be a lot faster than 42 mph.

There is no possible way for a 2002 GTX DI to run 58-62. The carb versions of the earlier smaller frame GTX's built up to 2001 ran in the 55-56 range typically, the DI's ran maybe a MPH or so slower at 54-55. In 2002, they came out with the new large hull GTX to accommodate the 4TEC, and for whatever reason they put the DI engine in that hull. It runs a good 2-3 MPH slower. Bottom line is that a 2002 GTX DI is a 51-53 MPH ski.
But I agree it should be much faster than 42, but you will need to check your true speed via GPS.
