    Lokking for a ski

Im new here and have been wanting a ski for awhile now for fishing bays and offshore for sharks, kings, ling etc . I will be buying used and have been looking at the yamahas. Was curious what to look for in buying used? I did find a 2001 Polaris 701cc virage with 45hrs for 2500. Is this a good ski? Or what others should I be looking at. I fish upper texas coast

    Welcome aboard the Hulk!!!

They don't make polaris skis any more. Parts are getting harder to find.

For fishing I'd suggest a 4 stroke ski.

Matt, there is a fellow selling an 2000 Yamaha SUV down in Houston With trailer. He is asking a little too much @ $4.5K, but I think @ about $3 to $3.5K you would get a very stable fishing ski/platform it might be worth your while to look him up. His ad is here on the Hulk. Good luck

I'd like to stay under 4k if possible although if I wait till April or may I can spend more. What do y'all consider to many hours?

My buddy has a 09 blue Yamaha 1200 with around 40 hours. Its a 4 stroke and he said that its deluxe? He wants 5k for it

If you do a quick search you will find some decent info. My pesonal opinion like many others can agree will be that the suv is the most stable only downside is that its a 2 stroke. I believe the best bang for the buck ski that you can buy now days for fishing would be the yamaha fx models. The best part about it is that 2002 to 2005 models go as cheap as 2k to 4k all day on craigslist (atleast in my area) it has the most reliable 4 stroke motor available on skis, fuel efficient, stable, decent chop ride, 3 seater and parts are all over the place, maintance is very simple.

unless the ski is over 300 hours i say dont be too concern with the hours but instead look at the skis overall condition, meaning does it have a lot of parts with rust, scratches, broken plastics or mechanism that havent been fixed, salt deposits on the engine area. Those are all signs of an owner that has not put much effort into maintaining his ski. so you will end up getting a ski that is worthless

Thanks for all the info. Is the 09 vx 1200 a good deal?

Never heard of a VX 1200.... Hours and condition make a lot of the price....
