    99 slh backfire

Hi guys I need some help just got me a 1999 slh. The guy I got it from said it sat for a couple years in his garrage. So I replaced all the fuel lines and rebuilt the carbs. Did a compression check and got 130 on both. After all that I tried to start it and after a wile it backfired so hard the rubber poped off the muffler. Scared the stuff out of me. Where do I go from here? Im scared to try it again..

Well I tried again and it started right away but did not run to well. I killed it so I could put the hose to it and let it run longer. But it backfired again just as hard. I looked at the plugs (witch are new) and the front one was black and the back one still looked brand new.

    Welcome

Does this engine have the original 1999 ignition system or the Updated Ignition Kit installed?

See my signature links for how to tell which is which. Red domestic engine section.

It has the original. I did some resistance test on it, and there was very few things that read right. There was also some mods done inside of the ebox. They took the circuit breaker out and wired it to a toggle switch. And the black wire from the stater and the cdi is on the screw thats on the cdi. Im not sure that is right. Cause the other black wires are on the screw on the meddle plate.

Yes, For sure we will need a picture of BOTH halves of the electrical box in order to figure out the electrical system.

You can also get update kits( if needed) from SBT, i believe they are 600. ( better then buying from Marto!)

SBT has them available. That is the main thing.

Sometimes something pops up for sale around here or on ebay, etc.
