    Advice for purchasing a Polaris 1995 SL650

So someone is selling a '95 Polaris SL650 (STD?) for $500. Cosmetically speaking, the thing looks fantastic. It looks like its been kept in someone's bedroom, let alone a garage. The seller claims he used it last summer but the last time out, he "hit a big wake and caused a wire going from the electric box to the starter to short and melt." My concern is what it may actually need to fire this thing up. I would assume a new electrical box but who knows where it goes from there. I don't mind putting money into this thing at all.....as long as it doesn't get out of hand. Any ideas? Good deal? Thanks!

    James

I bet the plastic battery cover was missing or damaged and the metal electrical box shorted on the battery. The harness from the stator to the electric box is probably damaged. You will not need to replace the whole box, probably just the stator. You may even get lucky and be able to repair the burnt wire.

Worst case you could probly part it out for more than that if the engine is good. If it comes with a decent trailer and is as nice as you describe the hull to be, doesn't sound like a bad deal.

I'm wondering if infact that's an sl750. I dont believe the 650 came with a speedometer. It could have been added. But that ski has a speedometer and gas gauge. Any chance for an engine shot?

Those are 2 analog guages, most likely added to a 650, the 750 had the 1 digital gauge
