    Modifying a Riva grate

I was wondering on the effect of taking the two outside wings off.

    Anybody ever done this?

Well I haven't done it but it might help speed wise. I put a riva gate on my GTX along with power filter and 13/20 prop, basically stage one. I lost 3 mph. Toward the end of the season I replace the riva grate with the stock grate and I gained 3 mph...but handling suffered. Maybe cutting off the wings would be a compromise and keep handling and reduce drag of the wings.??

    lafjax-

I've been gone for a while. Thanks for the reply.

See...without a gps to go by...just competing against a stock ski...this was my thought.

On a side...if you lost 3mph when you added everything...and gained 3mph when you swapped out the grate...you saw no net gains for the rest of your mods?

I tried it and lost speed. Its best to leave the Riva grate alone. It works very well!

    Thank you.

You saved me some time and money...again.

Aside...with the props and related performance being different on our skis....would the change benefit an RXT if not an RXP?

    ...just curious.

I never tried it on an RXT.

The main thing to consider is you want more surface area on the grate the faster you go. Cutting off the outer wings reduces the surface area. This is exactly why the Riva grate is faster than the stock grate on skis running 75+

The larger surface area helps prevent pump overstuff.
