Thread: Oil in bilge???

    Oil in bilge???

When I was flushing my ski after riding last few weeks ago I noticed some dirty water- milkshake- in the bilge. I checked the oil and all was fine so I rode again last weekend- same problem. Not much oil, but enough for concern (like any amount!). So tonight I tilt the ski up, and I get some beautiful honey running toward the bilge pump area. No visible oil on the engine, so I take off the BOV and intake tubes and it appears the front of the engine is oily- near the supercharger or below it.

any common problems with oil leaks in this area? Where should I go next with the process?

The dipstick still looks fine, but a little oil leak looks like a lot. And I don't want any oil leak!

Check if oil flitter is tight. Give the bilge a good clean and take the ski for a short run and check bilge area again and again. Who last serviced your ski. It could be left over oil from last service?

Check that all bolts are tight and none are missing from the oil cooler I've had skis leak oil from there before.

What is your oil level? May be too high.

Oil filter not leaking. Last service was 20 hours ago, and the oil in the bilge is just recent.
Hull is spotless now. I am going to run it on the hose and see if there is any new oil. After that- I am going to start pulling parts to see where the leak is.

this could be a long shot but worth looking at...look at the parts diagram for your ski and look for the oil drain bolt on bottom of oil pan....on my 2013 vxs i just barely put any force on my ratchet and socket and the drain bolt came loose....it was barely tightened...might be worth getting a mirror and flashlight and look to see if there is any oil around bolt head....

    It's a 2009 FX SHO.
No oil drain bolt- that's new (and not a bad idea).

yup...no bolt....but do see a hose coming out of rear of oil pan with those pinch clamps....

I can feel it. I can't "see" anything on the bottom. Clamps are tight.
