    Steped hull

Would steping the hull help reduce drag on a RXP? I have a friend that works for Foutain boats, him and I where talking about a boat in his shop that he was modifing the hull to have a step in the rear. He explained that it causes a disturbance at the step producing bubbles that reduces friction on the hull.
He said it would be pretty easy to do on mine, Would it work? Has anyone tried?

I would call "DIBS" but that is WAAAY beyond me right now...

Seriously though, if you got a guy at Fountain that says he can do it, why isn't your ski already there, I'll call DIBS on "dirty 2nds"

stepped hulls are great fro reducing drag, and increasing speed,'
only problem is that they SUCK for turning.
at least on a boat you have a outdrive that is like a rudder, but even 40ft boats have literally done 180 degree flips if they take a turn too fast.
boats usuallyy throttle downa bit to do any kind of turn.
steps are not a good idea on a ski.
if you notice the hulls on the new skis are naturally curved "up" in the back 1/2 anyways not quite steps but the same idea. allows for less drag. too much less drag and you will be flipping the ski end for end every time you try to turn!!

From what he said he would cut about 3" or 4" strip out my hull just above the ride plate in the shape of an arrow then step it 1/2" down than build it back up. With the handling mods I've done I'm not real worried about sliding out, matter of fact I need to be freed up alittle.
He had all the confidence in the world that it would do great.

i'd go for it... take measurements and make sure he thinks he can reverse it should there be ill-effects.
