    Pelican cases

Anyone use these for anything? if so are they good?

i am looking at a 1200 series with the pick and pluck foam for my gopro and a 1040 series with the same foam for on the ski. i was thinking the foam would let me customize the small case to hold the spare batteries and mounts plus my phone, registration card ect... and it wouldnt move iside the case.

I use one to carry my tools and it works great. I keep it in the front storage area and it has never popped open. It does bounce around and can crush other things in the tub but I pack it in with a blanket or towels.

They're great! A little pricey but last forever. I have one of the smaller models, & I left it sitting on the back deck of my ski once when leaving the ramp. When I remembered & went back to look for it, I found it in the middle of a busy road where it had been run over several time, & it was still intact.

I have a Pelican camera case similar to that and it's held up very well.
I also bought a couple smaller cases from Pelican; (personal size for my phone and wallet) but the latches on both of them snapped off within a few months. I switched to Otterbox for the smaller stuff, and never had any more problems.

hmm not good on the latches do you think it was just a bad batch of them or a flaw with the smaller one?

i can get the 1200 and the 1040 plus a piece of foam for the 1040 for about 62 bucks shipped.

pelican is the best cases available IMO. The 1050 fits snugly in the bottom of my RXT glove box.
For the larger cases I prefer one-piece foam but the pluckers work well too.

nice! i havent pulled the trigger yet but i need to. i think the 1040 is tad bit smaller than the 1050. so it should fit in my GTR glove box. only other things in there would be goggles, gloves and DESS keys

Nice job cutting out the foam btw. Where did you get a solid piece like that?

I don't know, they may have corrected the problem now since it was years ago; I returned it for free replacement, but after the latches snapped off on on two of them, I gave up and got my money back from the dive shop. I think the ones I had problems with were the 1030 model; like this, but they were all yellow, not clear...

The one I use now is the Otterbox 2000,
I've had this one for about 8 years, got it on Ebay and still going strong...
