MSX 140 Runs Great...For1/2 hr to 40 min

    Hi All
1st post after using very helpfull info on this site! Thanks! My son purchased a 2003 msx140 last spring. After testing compression decided to rebuild top end and completed rebuild at end of last season. The machine starts up and runs great for 1/2 hr to 45 min., then starts to bog down and eventually stalls with engine light coming on. Season starting here in Ontario and was hoping for some tips on what to look for as a possible cause. When it runs it runs great. Also if anyone knows of any Polaris Service Dep. that work on these as a last resort.
Thanks Much (hope im doin this right)

    Welcome

The reason for the Engine Check light needs to be diagnosed.

See my signature links for a simple LED code reading tool.

One possible cause could be EMM overheating, if the water cooling flow is restricted. Check the small hoses that feed water through the EMM. Especially check the brass elbows at the stator cover for blockage. And check the small water hose that runs from the EMM all the way to the rear exhaust exit.

Another possibility is the exhaust temp sensor wire is abraded or damaged near the sensor. The sensor is between the plastic exhaust section and the main engine exhaust manifold. Hard to see the sensor in there. There was a service update to add a small rubber bumper/spacer to prevent damage to the sensor wire.

Thanks for the info. Should be pulling out of the shed this weekend(if the snow is gone).
I will check the sensor and see if there is a spacer. I have seen the procedure for the code reading tool as well. Will update if I can after inspection. No running water yet so cant run on the hose. Hopefully 2 weeks to water on!

Unable to remove msx140 from winter home. Hopefully will be able to get out in two weeks. I will update at that time. In the mean time I will try to build a code reader.
    Thanks
