    How to convert 160 to 140 engine in 2006 fx cruiser HO

    I have a 2006 yamaha fx cruiser HO 160
    engine is locked up.........
    i know where a clean low hour 140 engine is
    has everything but ECM
    will that drop right into my hull?
    display and fob still work?
    i am sure 160 ECM won't work,
    but if I use 140 harness, fuel system, engine, and buy 140 ECM
    would it work fine?
    any problems with doing that, that you can see?
    i could do all of this for about a grand, versus 3k total to get sbt engine

    all you will be needing from that 140 is the long block
    bolt your intake manifold electronics and it will be ready to go. the only thing it will be different is that the 160 ho will turn around 10000 rpms , the 140 will turn around 8k . so keep that in mind.
    so the 160 computer is going to turn that 140 at 10k it may not hold longer.

    Lets start with what year is the FX 140? Early FX models 2002-04 have external coils & 2005 on have coil in head....so different ECU & loom. The HO has the Security system, etc. that ties into the gauges so you will need to match loom to gauges & ECU if you want the least amount of problems with the swap.

    The engine block, cams, pistons & oil pump are different on the FX but it will still bolt in and work if you use the matching throttle bodies & wiring from the FX.

    Because you are dropping 20 HP you may have to change impellers...The HO has the high pressure pump and the FX has the std. pump & different impeller.

    i still skeptical on rpm differences. regular mr1 is not built to turn 10k, and if he uses the 06 electronics and efi it will try to turn that engine at 10k . in my opinion it will not last long.

    I think you are referring to the VX110 engine which has same bore size but different pistons & rods VS the HO.

    The FX 140 uses a different crankcase, cams, oil pump, etc. but still turns 10,000 RPMs.

    my engine is 1000cc .... 140 HP
    debating about parting out or dropping it in and give it a shot
