    polaris jet pump question???

    Hey Guys,

My 1995 Polaris slt 750 had a vibration and then I noticed a water leak in the carrier. When I removed the drive shaft, it had tapered egdes in the impeller. It was tapered on the drive shart splines and impeller. When I removed the cone today, there was not a flat gasket like I expected. It was wet inside, but no kind of gasket. Also, When I spinned the impeller, I didn't hear any grinding like the bearings was ok. When I spin in by hand with no impeller, there is no free spin. Seems tight for bearings.

Does it suppose to have a gasket on the cone?
Should it have any free spin without the impeller?

How hard is it to rebuild the bearings?

    Thanks for your help

See my signature links, in the Jet Pump section, for info on how to rebuild the jet pump. Fairly easy job, overall.

I would recommend you do the jet pump rebuild. 1995 was nineteen years ago. Water inside the stator hub bearing area is never a good thing. A sudden failure of a bearing can damage the impeller in seconds at cruising speed.

The primary seal for the rear tailcone is a large o-ring set into a groove on the inside wall of the stator hub. On later model years Polaris did add a flat rubber gasket, which you can retrofit to your jet pump.

    k447,

Thanks for all your links, they are awesome.
Do I need a special too to do this jet pump build?
Do you know of any videos of anyone rebuilding a Polaris jet pump?

That is not the right tool.

I think I previously posted links and photos of the correct tool somewhere on GH.

It is a simple splined drive tool with a hex end for your wrench.
