    Intake Grate removal 2001 Virage

I had a run-in with a green sapling that was underwater. I was slightly above idle and it feed into my pump like a wood chipper
The impeller looks perfect from what I can see but the limb wedged in my grate and broke the rear of one of my grate bars. I think I can remove the grate and weld the rear on, the front is still intact.
From what I have read there is one screw holding this critter on? Removing some of the sealer seems to be suggested. Any more hints before I aggravate myself attempting to remove the grate?
    Thanks,
    Dave

One big screw at the front end of the grate, sealant around a tongue and groove fitting at the rear edge.

Remove single bolt/screw, get the leading edge of the grate free from the hull and tilt it down a few degrees.

Work the grate side to side and up/down as you pull forward. It should let go. If the sealant at the rear edge is still gripping strongly, some knife work may be required.

    Thanks Keith,
What type of sealant should I use upon re-assembly? Silicone or something more robust?
Are you running stock intake grates on your ski's?

I put an aftermarket grate on my 01 Virage i. I think it is an R&D grate.

Made a huge difference in the ride in the waves.
