SLTX-1050 Draining Battery When not in use.

    1996 SLTX-1050

The ski is draining the battery when not is use. It will kill the battery in a day or 2 just sitting.

Ski has the updated stator kit, and CDI box with the one ground wire elimination.

I though it could be the L bank voltage regulator, but I swapped out with a used one and still the same thing, the battery slowly drains when its sits.

Any ideas or tests I can run?

Maybe the L bank voltage regulator I swapped was bad?

    Where else can I look?

Could be the battery itself. If you disconnect it will it hold a charge?

Yes brand new battery and it is fine when off the ski.

    Any other ideas?

Did you do the orange wire update to the CDI power connection. Its possible the CDI could not be powering down. Does your MFD display go to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity?

No, the MDF does not go to sleep it stays on. I was thinking this could be the problem. Can you send me the info on the orange wire update?

Also, what should the battery votage read when the ski is on and idling? And then when reved? (just out of curiosity)

    Thanks

Weird though, my 95 sl900, the mdf stays on when its off also, but that battery is fine.

When it goes to sleep only the clock shows. The orange wire update involves making a jumper and connecting the red/purple wire from the CDI, and only this red/purple wire to the orange terminal in the box. It ensures that the CDI shuts down when the engine is not running. To see if this is the problem, you could just unplug the red/purple wire from the CDI box itself and see if the battery drain goes away.

    Thank you!

My MDF on the sltx is NOT going into sleep mode.

Are there are specific directions anywhere on this mod or a post about it?

    Thanks again?

So it continues to show the speedo without it shutting off and just showing the clock?
