need to get hole welded in waterbox should i cut open & gut or just get hole patched?

my rxpx waterbox has a 1/4 by 1.5" hole by the welds, its at the end of the water box though by the rear of hull and not where it connects to manifold area.

running et 137 + 4, kanilfex, riva relocation, riva thru hull, flame arrestor removed and stock 09 ecu.

should i bother trying to gut the water box by cutting the entire cap off where the weld is broken or just get the hole patched up and ride.

Did you run the ski without water for a bit? If it burned through that much then it got hot, and the metal is now BRITTLE...So a patch would not work, it would have to be cut out and trimmed down...

Which end did it happen on? The side to do the gutting is the side towards the motor...

ive been fighting a poorly running ski issue for a while now, the waterbox hole must of started small and with time this.

going to just get it welded, its at the rear of the hull and not by the exhaust.

brought it to slow 91( chris) the previous owner must of had it out once and the exhaust was never strapped nor did it have the black rubber insulation so it looks like it rubbed through on the hull. i have few IC straps here and will use that to hold it when i get it back.

the black rubber holds in a ton of water and corrodes the box. It was a very stupid idea from BRP.

I have never used the strap. It's just not needed. If the front or back connections let go the strap isn't going to do a thing

Thats a rub through mark...weld it up with some flast stock you can form to it...

I'd gut it while the welder is out...

You'd be surprised how much the box can move even strapped down...Put a strap back on it...
