Thread: spark break in

    spark break in

So, I get the new sparks monday. Want to break them in asap. Best I can figure reading the web, I need to not exceed 3/4 throttle during break in. Is riding in econo mode during break in good enough to limit the engine? I know I need to vary the RPMs, but it seems riding in econo mode might just make it easy.

Anyone have any guidence on making this break in period go quicker and smoothly?

    1. Take the new Spark,install
    Vtech turbo kit.
    2. Go to water and drive ski with low load until engine gets to normal operating temperature.
    3. Turn up boost to 11 psi.
    4. ride it like you stole it!
We now have 30 hours on the ski and all still ok. Good compression on all cylinders .

I'm looking for some break in advice that doesn't add $3500 per spark to the process.

Well point is that if it can stand that beating w a turbo on it then I think your safe to break it In fast..

Since I'm not buying a tune package this year, I was worried about warranty issues...

Just take it easy and do exactly what you said. I have broken in 14 Skies and mine always seemed to be a little faster than the other guy.
I believe in a engine cool down during break in- Like do 20 Easy minutes and let it cool down 40 minutes while you read the manual then finish the afternoon as the Manual says and varying the speeds often is very important.

So, do you think the 10 hour break in time is the right amount?

more like 2 hours. I put an hour on mine, then did the vtec 109 tune, took it easy for another half hour, then beat the hell out of it. Runs just fine. I dyno engines for manufacturer's for work, their break-in cycles are no more than 4 hours usually, a lot are 30 minutes to 2 hours, that is what I based mine on.

The Break in time before the Spark was 10 Hours- The Spark is 5 Hours and its all up to you on how you proceed? Listen to the engine and you will know!!

Is it really that obvious? Even to someone who has not broke in a PWC before? (Or any brand new vehicle).
